Under The Radar – Short form film reviews…#27 The Mist

The Mist

Dir: Frank Darabont (The Shawshank Redemption, The Green Mile) 2007

Brilliantly bleak ‘B’ movie style horror film from a story by Stephen King. After a violent storm a small Maine community is besieged by a mysterious mist within which lurk all manner of ungodly creatures. A group is holed up in a local supermarket and panic is whipped up by the town’s biblical fundamentalist (Marcia Gay Haden). A local commercial artist and dad (Thomas Jane) must remain the voice of sanity as hope slips away. Just sweary and gory enough to be serious with appropriate CGI, it holds on to the courage of its own convictions right to the bitter end. Aptly, a couple of cast members from The Walking Dead help out.
